Description
Cumin is a flowering plant in the family Apiaceae, native from the east Mediterranean to South Asia. Its seeds are used in the cuisines of many different cultures, in both whole and ground form. It also has many uses as a traditional medicinal plant. Cumin is extremely aromatic, with a warm, spicy, slightly bitter, earthy flavour. Cumin seeds are enjoyed around the world but especially in North African, Middle Eastern, Indian and Mexican cuisines.
Suggested Use: Cumin is a major component of curry and chili powders
Note that if substituting seeds for ground in a recipe, the conversion is approximately 1tsp seeds = ¾ tsp ground
