Description
Black eyed peas are a medium beige bean with a distinctive dark ‘eye’ and appealing mild earthy taste. They are native to China and came to the American South via West Africa through the West Indies.
A Southern favorite and the centerpiece of the classic dish Hoppin’ John. They are referred to in the old saying, “Rice for riches, peas for peace,” and folklore has it that they bring good luck.
