Description
A beautiful star-shaped spice with a strong and distinct flavour that is warm, sweet, and spicy, Gathering Place Star Anise is similar to licorice, fennel seed, clove, and anise seed. It is commonly used as an ingredient in Chinese 5 spice powder and in Vietnamese Pho. Although the flavour of star anise is generally thought of as sweet, it is commonly used in savoury dishes; it pairs well with citrus, onions, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger and should be used in small quantities.
